SUDAK, UKRAINE, 3 October 2008 - Human rights violations in pre-trial detention centres in Eastern Europe and national preventive mechanisms against torture and ill treatment will be the focus of a conference that opens in Sudak on Monday.
The three-day event is being organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Ukraine, the Independent Custody Visiting Association (UK) and the Kharkiv Institute for Social Research. It will bring together participants from Bulgaria, Finland, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Ukraine.
The event is part of a project on developing national preventive mechanisms against torture and ill treatment in establishments of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry.
Journalists are invited to attend the conference that opens at 10.00, on Monday, 6 October, at Tourist Health Centre "Sudak", Sudak, Lenin street.
