Seppo Kääriäinen (centre), a deputy speaker of Finland's Parliament, was quoted as saying by provincial dailies Itä-Savo and Länsi-Savo on Sunday that he saw the president keeping a sliver of foreign policy power along with the status of commander-in-chief of the Defence Forces.
Mr Kääriäinen, as the ruling Centre party's constitution specialist, is to play a pivotal role in the forthcoming process to amend the constitution.
"The Centre party feels that the president's powers should be taken to a parliamentary direction," the former defence minister was quoted as saying.
"The Centre party does not want to dismiss the president, but does want to parliamentarise security policy decision-making."
He told the papers that he was in favour of stripping the president of all nomination powers.
