The Finnish, featuring blue on a white has become familiar around the world ever after the liberation/civil and the consequent full independence in 1918 (actually declared already in 6.12.1917).
Today the Finns are celebrating the 90-year anniversary of the national flag which must be flown from public buildings on fixed celebration days (such as the Independence day, the Memorial day of the Fallen Ones, etc.)
Needless to say, the 27th Finnish UN Jaeger Battalion follows faithfully the orders rising our flag over our public internet build-up, using simultaneusly the occasion to introduce our non-Finnish readers some specialities related to the Finnish flag and especially its variations.
Basically the flag of Finland comes with a blue cross on white as displayed in the main picture of this article above.
A remarkable additional feature, the Finnish Coat of Arms - introduced below - must be mentioned here.

The Coat-of-Arms, symbolizing the Lions and Lionesses of Finland may be added to the flag in several variations resulting respectively in different outcomes of which some are introduced to our foreign friends here.
§1. Adding the Coat of Arms of Finland to the middle of the flag as in the photo below yields the so-called "State Flag" indicating a governmental connection for the particular usage:

§2. A further step in the "product development", dominant among the Finnish Defence Forces (Suomen Puolustusvoimat) is the best approached by starting from the respective photo of the Finnish War Flag (Sotalippu):

As this variant is almost exclusively used in the connection of the struggle (in Arabic, jihad) of the National survival of Finland, an obvious interpretation for the parts cut off from the end of the flag seems to suggest itself: instead of the standard interpretation for the blue area as cross, the Finnish military seems to read the symbolism as a Sword held in the struggle (Jihad) by the Lions of Finland.
§3. It is noteworthy, however, that not all the Finnish military formation go under the above Finnish flag exclusively: when the edge of the sword in chosen not to be shown in the tip of the Sword, an alternative approach, favored by the Helsinki-Finland-based 1st Guards Regiment highlights the edges of the sword as designed by their flag in the photo below:

§4. As the 1st Guards Regiment is considered by many to be the most direct inheritor of the Royal 27th Prussian Jaeger Battalion, the hard-core Finnish Liberation war unit in 1918, as well as the entire Finnish Armed Forces ever after, it is not unworthy to bring forth this variant of the flag here as well:

As this variant of the flag - adding crown for "royal" as well as four coat-of-arms (actually eagles) in the corners of the flag is today used by yours truly, the Lions of the 27th Finnish UN Jaegers we can readily promise our readers more information on the details when the developments of the war enable us to do so.
§5. Currently, the more variant variant of the flag of the Jaegers is as follows:

The flag, actually only the little black-and-white symbol topping the funereal cross, with Lion no longer among us in this world indicates the readiness and willingness to offer one's life for Fatherland, Home, Religion and Freedom, considered dearer than anything.
§6. When the black cross from appearing in the Liberation Jaegers' monument above is added to the Finnish War Flag (cf. §2.), a following variation of the Finnish flag is finally obtained:

(a) President. as the commander-in-chief of Finnish Defence Forces is the first among all to sacrifice him/herself for the Fatherland, Home, Religion and Freedom, as well as
(b) All the Finns, Lions and Lioness are happy and willing to serve President of Finland, as well as the Finnish Defence in this Holy Task, not giving the slightest thought to such lesser, unworthy details as their own lives within this.
EPILOGUE: Today, there is a sad affair concerning the Finnish flag which we would like not to mention in this beautiful day, but under current circumstances are forced to make mention of:
As recently reported by the NDHF Team, there would be a group of badly informed Finns that would like to cause changes in the Finnish flag.
Because the party in question would like to strip off the President's constitutional right to lead the foreign policy of Finland and the Finnish Defence Forces that would involve corresponding removals in the Finnish flag tradition and - even worse - strange, disagreeable ideas concerning the stateship of Finland.
We use the occasion to warn all the Finns of severe consequences of such a foolish mistake.
As a recent example from Iraq - where the flag has been already attacked in the similar manner by the very same party now targeting Finland - shows, the nationalist, patriotic parties will never accept such blasphemy and disgrace of the tradition, responding to that with Fierce Resistance.
So to avoid any completely, unnecessary conflict here in Finland, our friendly advice to all the Finns is to forget such non-sense.
The Finnish flag in all its variation, bearing and preserving the lovely, beautiful Finnish tradition is the best just as it is:
"Sen leijonalippua jääkärien käsivarret jäntevät kantaa"
"Her flag of Lion is carried by strong hand of Jaegers"
